I almost graduate this April with my degree in Recreation Leadership/Management, but before they'll hand me my diploma I have to complete the other half of my 800 hour internship. Soooo Jeff and I have found some places for us to go to do that. The only problem is the options are so good we don't know what we want to do. So, I have a poll, and I need your help deciding. Read the descriptions before casting your vote!
The jobs are roughly May-August, except for Guam which requires a six month commitment. We are not considering money as a factor (two of the jobs pay really well) since we're more concerned with the experience, so don't count that. We've researched all the places extensively and have heard great reviews for all of them.
Here are the details:
Salmon, Idaho
Working for Boy Scouts of America
Job includes being a river rat on the Snake, white water kayaking
Room and Board provided
In a beautiful area, Jeff and I would be living in small cabin on the river nicknamed "The Luv Shack" for the summer. We would spend the whole summer kayaking. Our would-be boss has been holding a spot for us since last Fall, he really wants us there. Idaho is amazing in the summer, and I LOVE the river.

Aspine, Idaho
Working for Boy Scouts of America
Room and board provided
Job includes being a wrangler and taking boy scouts on week long pack trips
through the beautiful mountains in Idaho. On the weekends we would be able to take the horses riding, and if our friends or family wanted to visit and go on a ride, they'd be more than welcome. I was especially wanted for pack trips because I'm a Wilderness First Responder, and they desperately need those. Our would be boss is the kindest man in the whole world, with six kids (the youngest is 8months) and he takes them ALL horseback riding and camping.

Alaska, Anywhere
Working for Royal Celebrity
Room and board NOT provided
Job includes taking guests on tours and helping them with everything they need
This job would be fun because you get to try everything your guests would want to do for free at least once, and then at a very discounted price afterwards. That includes helicopter rides, cruises, whatever! After work is when the party begins, traveling across Alaska and running from bears. You get to pick whatever city you would want to work in, whether it's way north or south on the coast.

Greenough, Montana
Working for PawsUp resort
Room provided, board at an additional cost
Job would include ATV tours, fly fishing, horseback riding, hiking guide, shooting guide
Have you seen A River Runs Through It (starring Brad Pitt)? This is where they filmed it. Working at a 5star resort (about $1787 a night) set in the mountains, we'd be on the activity side of things. It's a beautiful area and we'd be bound for an adventure or two!

Yokosuka, Japan
Working for the Military, basically
Board and flight provided, room not
Job would include sailing, surfing, indoor snowboarding, hiking, camping, touring
Traveling around Japan would be wonderful, and it would be quite the experience! This is what I was going to do last summer, but opted to spend the summer in love with Jeff and then getting married. As we are proficient in just about everything they offer (but sailing), Jeff and I would have a crazy fun time. We'd get time off to tour the country and see the sites!

Guam
Working for an all inclusive resort
Room, board and flight included
Job would include lifeguarding and running the activities for the resort (snorkeling.. scuba)
We would spend six months in Guam, getting three meals a day and our own hotel room, to "work" at a beach resort on a tropical island. The resort is centered around families, so we would get to play with kids and adults of all ages. The beaches are beautiful and we'd get to spend the summer and more hanging out. The plus side of this job is that we could do it at any time of the year, not just this summer, so we could do this one AND another one.

So I voted for Guam because I get to fly out there alot with my new job in the Air Force so I get to see you guys more than once a year jk. But Guam is very beautiful and is a great place to complete ur dregree. And just FYI I am moving in 3 weeks!
i say guam too.. it is supposed to be amazing scuba diving... some of the beswt in the world.. we are considering taking a pretty low paying job after school to live there.
Anna- this is Kari Johnson, WOW, your life is going to be so exciting pretty soon. For sure go somewhere foreign, once in a lifetime chance I am sure! Glad we found your blog so we can peek in on your life!
This is your mother, I'm suppose to vote on a place where my baby is in danger from crazy horses, ferious bears, rocks in rivers and any number of dangerous, life-killing things!!!
I vote you go to Philmont Scout Ranch. For excitement they do have bears (not grizzly), mini-bears, hiking, rapelling, cavelcades, crafts, COPE courses, etc. etc. etc.
Love, your overly protective mother
And cougars. Did I mention cougars, that stalk? Honey, there isn't any place safe enough for you. Why don't you just come back home?
Love and kisses with lots of hugs,
M
Anna! You are so cute! Ok, my vote is for Guam. But all of your options sound amazing. Good luck choosing- can't wait to hear where you are going to end up going!
I'd say somewhere out of the country. The opportunity to go somewhere COMPLETELY different doesn't come along very often. So Guam or Japan... you can go to Idaho whenever!! lol
