How to Use Blogger Labels

Now, please remember. I am not a professional this is just stuff I've learned over the last couple years. And I might not explain it so well.. so just ask questions if it doesn't make sense! Pretend you have just clicked "New Post" and are at the beginning of a post. Ever notice that little line box at the bottom of your "compose" area where it says, "Labels for this post?" It gives you a couple words as an example like "Scooter" and "Vacation." If you have been using it, you'll notice that previous labels will show up once you start typing them. You can highlight (if you look up there I highlighted "blog tutorials") the previous label by using the tab button or your mouse. Saves time typing, and ensures you don't misspell something on accident. Now, every post that has the same label, like all my "blog tutorials" posts will be grouped together. Meaning, you can sort your posts by what you are talking about. Crazy, but super fantastic for finding that old post you were looking for.
Note: If you label something "Recipe" and do another post, and label that one "Recipes" they will not go in the same "group."
And there you have it. That is the basics of how to label something.
So what is the point of labeling? Labeling your post tells the google search engines what you've written about, helping them make your blog relevant to the rest of the world. For blogger specifically, it creates a way for you and your readers to find posts of similar content. Why would you care about that, though? Especially if your blog is private... Well, for example, Mandy wants to keep all of her recipes in one spot so she can find them again... especially because she's already posted eighteen of them! She can even make a link for it on her sidebar, and the rest of us can find her recipes, too! (note: you can click on the pink words in this post and see what I am talking about-those are links if you haven't noticed) I like to label when I write about my squirrels, Jeff, the dog, myself, old memories, cell phone blogs, etc. I can make a link for those posts, and all of the ones with the same label will pop up automatically. An example of where I have done this are those side pictures of Jeff and I-each picture is connected to a link... if you click Jeff, anything I labeled with his name will show up. If you click my picture, anything labeled, "Myself" will show up. Where do I get the links (web address), you might ask... They're right at the bottom of every post. Now, if you didn't label the post anything, there won't be any link/label. See this one up there? It's labeled "family" and "holiday." Because it had something to do with both those topics, I put both labels. It will still show up under both categories. If you clicked on either label, "family" or "holiday" it will take you to every post that matches those labels. After I clicked the label "holiday," it took me to all those posts with that label. Now you can see them all nicely laid out, everything I've done that has to do with any holiday with the most recent posts first. Now if I wanted to take that link, or that web address with "holidays" and attach it to something, I would just look up in my web address and there you go-there is the web link. Want to share everything you ever posted about your baby with your facebook friends? That's where you'd find your link.. as long as you labeled all your baby posts "baby" and then clicked that label! I took my label about our baby to be, and you know that link up there that says, "baby?" When you click on it, I have ANOTHER link that says, "All things Pregnant" and that's where I put the label link to everything I've posted about the baby.So let's say you are just figuring this out and you can't even begin to think what you have labeled your posts. No sweat. Go to your dashboard, and click on "New Post" and you'll see another section, "Edit Posts." You've probably been there before. Look to the left-you'll see ALL your labels there. If you click on one of those labels, it will bring up only the posts with those labels. If you wanted to fix your labels, you could put a check box on all the posts you have done about your baby, or your crafts or your whatever, and then... See that nice little drop down box? You can label them all at once, at the same time. Or let's say you accidentally mislabeled a bunch of posts. Highlight them, click the drop down box, and you'll see where it says, "remove label." There you go-simple way to label and un-label your posts.

Love Anna
