Epic Dust Storm in Lubbock

It was my first real day in our new place in Lubbock. Jeff came home for dinner, and we were hanging out in Tristan's room while I took cute pictures of him playing with his blocks. ... OK, maybe I played with the blocks and he sat there. Same difference. Anyway, I just happened to look out his window into the backyard. .... W... T.... F....??? So I grabbed my camera, took a picture and then asked Jeff if this was normal. He said yes, it happens about twice a month. Five minutes later, no joke, this is what the backyard looked like.
I went outside in the front, and this is what I saw. I was horrified, to say the least.
The sky just got darker, and darker and within seconds I could literally see the wall of dust making its way towards me.Jeff went to take the trash out to the dumpster across the street and I could hardly make him out through the dirt. Not even kidding. Watching it blow in was totally eery, everything was quiet. It's not like a thunderstorm where you hear thunder and see the lightening. This creepily just snuck up on you. I wasn't sure if I should expect something really awful, or how long this would last, and how this was even normal. I mean, that is a LOT of dirt. Come to find out that this is NOT normal. This was the worst dust storm Lubbock has seen in about thirty years. That, my friends, was a relief to find out. The ones Jeff was seeing are much, much lighter and smaller. This one was so strong it blew our screen door off the hinges, and the wind raged for quite a few hours. It explains why there is a constant pile of dirt near the corners of the windows though.
