High School Shop

So here I am, subbing at Oak Ridge High all week... in the shop class. And wow-these boys are out of control. The teacher didn't leave them anything to do while he was gone all week (well, he did but it wasn't enough to keep them occupied for 90 minutes). So after watching "Remember the Titans" about 45 times I finally had enough and complained to another teacher who was very willing to give me LOADS of stuff for them to do. That way I can sit here and blog. So how do you get 30 high school students to be quiet (and take a nap)? You make them read their Food Tech text book out loud. That was my method yesterday and did it work like a charm. A couple of the students actually complimented me and said that this was the most they had learned all year in the class. I was actually aiming to torture them for not being quiet and letting me blog on Monday, but apparently some of them actually enjoy learning. The others showed their appreciation through their silent slumber. Apparently I'm the most interesting teacher they have had all year as well.
