Jessica and I have been friends since we were fourteen. That means we have celebrated thirteen of her birthdays together. I about fell over when I realized that the other day... I swear it feels somewhat similar to high school, we still hang out with the same friends, live in the same area, and do the same stuff. Since when did I ever even get out of high school!? And college?! And where did this baby come from!?! Since when did we get so old?! It was just yesterday we showed up to Wendy's with balloons and embarrassed her in front of her co-workers. No-wait. That was ten years ago. Whatever! She hasn't changed-she is still the same fun loving, laughing, singing, smiling girl.
I decided a birthday party was in order. Which meant, I called someone else and asked for ideas on what to do and hoped they would take over. I'm glad Shannon said things like, "Um, how 'bout no, and we do it the easy way like this?" I was also hoping Jessica would leave up some decorations from the Unbirthday party we had the other day. Then I wouldn't have to decorate! Jessica could decorate for her own party! Anyway, Shannon and I arrived early (and by early I mean Shannon arrived early) to an empty house, decorated a little more, and eagerly awaited Jessica's arrival home.
Boy, was she surprised! We had Alma get her out of the house. "Where am I going to take her on a Sunday afternoon during Whitney's nap?" He asked. I had no idea, but he did a great job. Close to their original arrival time he texted me "Can we come back yet?" As I was running late and just driving over there, I frantically said, "NO! Not yet!" Ten minutes later he asked, "OK now?" To which I responded, "Ten more minutes!" So lucky Alma got to tell Jessica that for her birthday she was going to have to nurse her hungry baby in the parking lot of the post office. Hooray! Poor girl, all Jessica wanted to do was go home, but her husband wouldn't let her. Men. I'll never understand them ;)
But in the end it was a blast. We got to hang out with good friends, eat great food, ignore the kids while they ate the toppings on the cake, and enjoy being friends with Jessica.
We should have taken this before a few other people had to leave-but all of us went to high school together... and here we are with most of our babies. Isn't that crazy? I posted this on Facebook and all Hannah Hurt said was, "Wow." Yup. Give it ten years and look what us Mormons can do!
And this picture is clearly of my child. I know. I know. He's a boy. And in his defense he can't dress himself and I liked that pink shirt. So there. And it was two hours after he likes to be in bed. Anything that made him happy he could have. Pink pacifier? Sure thing, baby! Disney Princess lunch box? Anything you want. Until Kaitlyn decided she wanted it back-you can see her hand creeping toward it. Thankfully, Tristan survived the night, and Jeff and I had a blast. Of course, that's how it is anytime you're with Jessica. Happy birthday, best friend! Thanks for letting us trash your house on your birthday... it was the most we could do.
**I have to say something about this video... almost every clip came from my cell phone over the last seven years, and each one has a funny memory behind it. As I was putting them together I couldn't help but laugh at all of our inside jokes together, over being pulled over by cops, comparing hair, road trips, songs we sang, pellet guns... you name it. So many fun memories... Jess-thanks for all the laughs! Here's to another twenty seven!!!**
