Thank goodness for Diego and his show or I might not have known what to do!!! Storie would have been proud of me. I would highly recommend everyone watching it in case a similar situation comes your way. With Spring in fully swing you never know when baby turtles, birds, squirrels, or bugs will need your assistance!
So, here is my How To for saving a little baby bird (also known as a fledgling if it's trying to fly) but that sounds like something from the Dark Crystal, doesn't it? So we'll avoid that creepy word and call it a baby bird.
- Keep an eye out for small, bouncing things
- If you see a cat approaching the animal, scream and yell and flail your arms. This will not deter the cat, only encourage it to move faster.
- Chase the cat after it catches the bouncing thing-it is faster than you so you will need to book it.
- If it doesn't drop it, close your eyes and walk away.. if it DOES drop it, carefully scoop up the animal.
- Call your local park and find out which cute retired couple in your neighborhood spends their days lovingly caring for little forest creatures. Don't bother with the vet, if he's like the ones here he probably has a receptionist who doesn't know what an anti bacteria is and he probably doesn't even want to see your little friend.
- Drive around with the hopping bird in your lap for an hour. It will probably want to climb around the seat belt (despite it's little scratches and poor foot) and check out the odometers on your car.
- Drop it off at the cute retired couples house, and hope the evil cat bacteria doesn't kill your little friend.

Hey do you enjoy or go running at all? We are coming out to TX in mid august for Bridget's wedding. Are you guys still going to be around and do you want to come running with me? We can do other fun stuff too!
haha, that's hilarious!
now I know what to do with a baby bird! (I agree- a much better name then a fledeling..which just sounds wierd)
You didn't keep it!! I know your Dad wanted another pet in the house!
Awww...you should have kept it, it would have been the perfect addition to the Sugar-glider Soup we're making next week
