I love frosty mornings, I love sweaters, and I love seeing my breath in the air. I remember when I was a kid I'd get a candy cigarette and puff on it, pretending I was smoking. The first puff was always the best cause you blew off the sugar that was on the cigarette. The cold air was like bonus smoke. Now that I'm older I wonder what goon thought candy cigarettes were a good idea for children. "Not enough people are smoking by age 13! We must try harder!!!" I wonder if the same makers also have like gummy needles and chocolate crack pipes.
Anyway, it's hard to explain the splendor of the fall, but I love it. I wish I had a better camera cause the one I have doesn't do them justice. In fact, it doesn't do what it's supposed to. You turn it on to picture mode and it goes through this huge decision making process. "Should I stay on camera mode? Should I do video? Should I go to 'play'????" The camera starts scrolling through all the options that you didn't tell it it could have. Meanwhile, the animal you wanted to take a photo of has ran off, the scenery you were passing has just gone by and you're left taking a photo of the hood of your car as you try to stick the camera out the window backwards. .JPG)
#$%#!.
At any rate, I stopped the car today to wait for my stupid camera to decide what it wanted to do and finally got some pretty pictures..JPG)
So here is the view around Salmon Lake. Breathtaking-no matter how many times you drive it. I remember the first time we drove around the lake at 45mph, we were just googling at the scenery. The people behind us wanted to pass SO bad but they couldn't cause well-it would almost mean instant death on the two lane road. Haha. So we made them drive behind us. Now we're that couple going 70mph who wanna run over the slow poke tourists. But, the view still takes my breath away even if its cloudy, rainy, foggy or snowy. It never gets old.
Interesting fact:
An average of one person drives into this lake every year, yet there are almost no guard rails around the lake. The guy who did it this year is in our branch-it was quite the story!
This is the University of Montana's faculty Lodge on Salmon Lake. Legend has it that the guy who built it was the guy who invented the contraceptive "sponge." However, he ran into some $$ issues, his wife died of cancer and when he set his yacht on fire to collect insurance they called him on it. So he shot himself and then some rich guy bought the house and donated it to the school.
And some nice leaves next to the Blackfoot river. Another reason why you should do float trips in the fall-the leaves are stunning.
And these are our neighbors. They're real jackass'.
